Series 4 Episode 13: Journey's End
Summary:
The Doctor heals his body but is able to put the rest of his regeneration energy into his hand, so he doesn't change into another person. The Daleks find the Tardis and bring it to their ship. With everyone out of the Tardis except Donna, the Daleks try to destroy it. But when Donna touches the Doctor's hand a human version of him grows out of it and saves the Tardis from destruction. Martha has reached Germany and activates one of the Osterhagen stations. Sarah Jane, Mickey and Jackie are on board the Dalek ship and are barely able to escape the Reality bomb. There they meet Jack and try to destroy the Daleks. But the Daleks are able to bring all of them to the vault. They haven't expected to see the human Doctor and Donna appear out of nowhere and suddenly Donna turns into a human Time Lord. Together they manage to defeat the Daleks and bring all the planets home. The human Doctor destroys all the Daleks, a thing the Doctor wouldn't have done. After the Earth is at it's normal place, the Doctor says goodbye to his companions and leaves the human Doctor with Rose in the parallel world. Is there a future for him and Donna?
This is such a beautiful and, at the same time, sad ending for a series. We have all of the (mostly new) companions of the Doctor in one episode and we even have a human Doctor that grew out of Ten's hand. I Don't think that Davros is right that the Doctor has turned his companions into weapons because the creator of the Daleks just doesn't know what people do for each other when they love someone. It was a great surprise that Dalek Caan helped the Doctor and that he was the one who brought Donna to all the right places, so she was able to save the universe. It's so cool to finally see why Donna is so special and she makes a great Time Lord. Then there are the sad goodbye scenes where all the companions leave the Doctor and get back to their own lives. Rose now has a chance to grow old with the human Doctor but it's sad nonetheless that we probably won't see her again. The most heartbreaking moment is when the Doctor has to take away Donna's memories because she would die otherwise and now he has to travel alone once more.

Series 2 Episode 13: Doomsday
Summary:
The Cybermen are on the whole planet when five Daleks come out of the sphere. They don't kill Rose and Mickey and it seems that they need them for something called the Genesis Ark. Rose's Dad comes from the parallel universe and tries to destroy the Cybermen, which isn't so easy. He would let the version of earth, which is not his own, suffer under the Cybermen just to get rid of them. But there is still the Doctor who doesn't want innocent people killed. Mickey unwillingly opens the Genesis Ark and millions of Daleks come out of it because they were imprisoned there. Soon the Cybermen and Daleks start to fight each other and the Doctor sends Rose into the other universe but she wants to stay with him and comes back. Together they open the breach so the Daleks and Cybermen will be sucked into it but Rose can't hold on and falls into it too but is saved by her father. Will the Doctor be able to see Rose again?
This is such a sad episode and the last in which we will see Rose for a long time. It already starts sad when we hear the voice-over and Rose says this is the day I died. Well, we know that she isn't really dead but she's in a parallel universe and there is no way for her to get back to the Doctor. The fight between Daleks and Cybermen is epic and really great for a series final. I wonder if every Dalek and Cybermen was sucked into the breach or if there are still some in some other parts of the universe. They must be somewhere because they all tend to come back. The episode has some great special effects and it must have been tons of work to let it look so good. The final seen at the beach in Bad Wolf Bay is so sad because the Doctor wants to say goodbye to Rose and then he's not able to tell her that he loves her. We all know it but he never says it. But Russel T. Davies managed to hook the people again for the next series and presents us a wonderful funny moment after the sad goodbye of Rose. Suddenly there is a bride in the Tardis and the Doctor has no idea how this could have happened.

Series 2 Episode 12: Army of Ghosts
Summary:
The Doctor and Rose land in London to visit Jackie but something strange happens. Ghosts appear everywhere and not only in the UK but on the whole world. For the Doctor the strange figures don't look like ghosts and he tries to find out where their signal comes from. Accidentally, they take Jackie along on their journey, which brings them into the Torchwood Institute. There the Doctor and Jackie find out about the ghost shift and how Torchwood gains energy. Meanwhile, Rose is able to walk freely through the Institute and comes to a room with a strange sphere in it, which nobody can open. The Doctor's fears come alive when some programmed people from Torchwood start the ghost shift again and Cybermen from a parallel universe appear in Torchwood. But this is not all that the Doctor and his companions have to face.
This is the first part of the final two-parter of series two and the last time Rose is the Doctor's companion. It's an interesting story and the ghostly forms are a brilliant idea. I guess everybody has lost someone and they just want to believe that their loved ones came back. Torchwood is playing with humanity here and they don't know what they are playing with. Finally we see Torchwood in this episode after all the hints during series two. It's a bit crazy that they see the Doctor as their enemy and admire him at the same time. This is the first episode after the relaunch of Doctor Who in which we have two of the Doctor's big enemies: Daleks and Cybermen. But the episode is not only exciting but also a bit sad because we know that Rose won't be travelling with the Doctor anymore. Freema Agyeman, who plays Martha in series three, has a role in his episode as well and plays her cousin who is killed by the Cybermen.

Series 2 Episode 6: The Age of Steel
Summary:
The Doctor, Rose and Mickey are able to flee from the mansion together with the resistance group and Rose's father but they are chased by Cybermen and Ricky dies. Now the Cybermen take control of London and lead all the people via their ear-pods into their factories. There they start to convert them into Cybermen. The Doctor comes up with a plan to stop them but the only way to do this is to get into the factory and stop them from inside. Soon most of the group are captured and now it's Mickey's turn to save the world. Will he be able to do it?
I really like the solution of this two-parter although we won't see Mickey for a while now because he stays on the parallel Earth to destroy the remaining Cybermen. It's good that he has finally found his place and isn't the tin dog anymore. That shows that the characters evolve in this series and don't stay the same because I didn't like Mickey very much in the first episodes. It's a bit hard for the people who were turned into Cybermen that the Doctor turns off the emotion control and they realise what happened to them but maybe that's better than feeling nothing at all. The Cybermen are back, defeated by the Doctor once again but that was just one battle and not the war and we will see them again. In this episode the Doctor is his brilliant self again but he couldn't have done it without Mickey's help and Rose's Dad. It's so sad to watch when Mickey and Rose say goodbye and when her father leaves without another word because it is just too much for him to understand that Rose is his daughter. Now we are back again to Rose and the Doctor in the Tardis.

Series 2 Episode 5: Rise of the Cybermen
Summary:
The Doctor, Mickey and Rose land in a parallel version of the Earth where Rose's Dad is still living and quite successful. She wants to meet him and after some discussions the Doctor goes with her. It's Jackie's birthday and Rose and the Doctor help to serve the guests, so Rose gets a chance to talk to her Dad. Meanwhile Mickey visits his grandmother but he is kidnapped by some people and soon meets his parallel self Ricky. Ricky is the head of a resistance group in London who have noticed that people go missing. The Doctor soon finds out what happened to the people when the birthday party is attacked by Cybermen, another old enemy of the Doctor.
The episode is the first part of a two parter in which the Tardis lands in a parallel London. This is the second time Rose is able to see her Dad and talk to him and he somehow knows her deep down inside. It's a cool idea to have an episode in a parallel universe because you can use the same characters but they can behave totally different because different universes aren't exactly the same. In this episode you can see how Mickey changes and how different Ricky is. Now the comment of the Ninth Doctor makes sense because he normally called Mickey Ricky. This is the first episode of New Who where the Cybermen appear another old enemy of the Doctor beside the Cybermen. It's interesting that Cybermen are originally humans but they are transformed and robbed of their emotions. A really good episode with a dramatic cliffhanger.

Series 2 Episode 4: The Girl in the Fireplace
Summary:
It is Mickey's first trip in the Tardis, which brings him, the Doctor and Rose onto a spaceship in the future. There are no people on board but a fireplace that is a time portal. Through the fireplace the Doctor meets Reinette as a girl and discovers that she is haunted by clockwork robots who scan her brain. He meets her in different stages of her life and soon finds out that she is Madame de Pompadour. Rose and Mickey have a look at the spaceship and they find human body parts integrated into the ship. When the clockwork robots try to kill Reinette the Doctor tries everything to save her even if that means that he can't return to Rose and Mickey. Can he find a way back?
I really liked this episode especially because of the time jumps but in the end it's a really sad episode because the Doctor comes too late. The clockwork robots look amazing and it must have been so much work to build them but they are really brilliant and a bit scary. There is a lot of emotion in the episode, for example when Rose thinks she has lost the Doctor forever or when the Doctor reads Reinette's last letter. I love the scene with the horse on the spaceship and how the Doctor keeps it as a pet. That's really cool. You somehow feel the joy of Mickey who is on a spaceship for the first time. All in all, a beautiful episode with a bitter sweet touch.

Series 2 Episode 3: School Reunion
Summary:
Mickey has told the Doctor and Rose about strange things going on in a school and so the Doctor works there as a teacher and Rose in the canteen. The Doctor is quite surprised when Sarah Jane Smith crosses his way and starts her own investigations at the school. First she doesn't recognise him because he has regenerated since they last met but then they are both happy to see each other again. Rose is a bit jealous because of the relationship of Sarah Jane and the Doctor but they have other things to think about. The headmaster and a big part of the staff are bat-like aliens who use the children to solve a puzzle, which would give them the power over time. Can the Doctor stop them with a little help of his companions and K9?
This is the first time where Rose is confronted with a former companion of the Doctor and she sees what he does to the people who travelled with him. Sometimes the people decided that they don't want to travel with him anymore but more often they either die or he leaves them behind like he did with Sarah Jane. Rose has to deal with the thought that the Doctor will leave her behind one day and will never return. This episode has some great emotional moments especially when the character of Sarah Jane Smith comes back and when the Doctor tells Rose that she can spend her whole life with him but not the other way round. In moments like this you can also see that being a Time Lord is a burden most of the times. It's funny to see similarities between Mickey and K9 but I'm also glad that he got some space in the series to evolve from Mickey, the idiot, to a very brave man and good character. A great reunion episode, which connects the old Doctor Who episodes with the new ones.

Christmas Special: The Christmas Invasion
Summary:
The Doctor lands the Tardis in London before he faints. Rose puts him into bed at her Mum's flat and the only thing she, Jackie and Mickey can do is to wait until he wakes up again. It is Christmas and Rose and Mickey go out to do some Christmas shopping but they aren't able to spend some time together because strange figures dressed as Santa start to shoot at them. When they are back at Rose's place there is a different Christmas tree standing in the living room. The tree suddenly gets alive and Rose can wake the Doctor who saves them but they have woken him too soon and he is unconscious again. Then an alien ship turns up and hovers above London. Rose and the other hide with the Doctor in the Tardis and Rose has to play the ambassador of the human race because the Doctor is not awake yet. On the ship she meets Harriet Jones again and soon they notice that the Doctor is awake again. Can he send the aliens back to where they came from?
The first ever Christmas Special of New Who and we already have to get used to a new Doctor. You don't see that much of the Doctor in this episode because he often lies somewhere and is unconscious but in my opinion that's a good way to introduce him. Rose doesn't know what she thinks about this new Doctor and she doesn't know if he still wants to travel with her, which gives the episode an exciting edge. It is so great to see Harriet Jones again and I'm glad that they brought her back into the show. It's a bit like a running gag when she still shows her ID to everybody and even the aliens know who she is. One moment I really like is the fight scene between the Doctor and the Sycorax leader when his hand grows back because he is still in his regeneration phase. When Rose watches him sleep, you just want to tell her that everything will be alright. I can understand why Harriet told Torchwood they should destroy the retreating ship but I can also understand the Doctor who doesn't want to kill someone who capitulated. This must have been Torchwood London, which is destroyed later and it wasn't Jack who fired this weapon because he is the leader of Torchwood Cardiff. It's a bit sad that the snow at the end of the episode is no snow but ash but it's nice to know that the Doctor still wants to have Rose as a companion.

Series 1 Episode 13: Parting of the Ways
Summary:
The Daleks know that they have been discovered and they are launching their attack. The Doctor and Jack manage to get into one of the Dalek ships and are able to rescue Rose. There they find out how the Daleks were able to rebuild themselves again and the Doctor meets his old enemy the Dalek emperor who survived the Time War. Back on the Game Station, the Doctor tries everything to build up a delta wave to save the people but he knows that he doesn't have enough time. While Jack tries to defend the 500th floor, the Doctor send Rose back into her time to save her. Rose doesn't want to give him up and she finds out that she is Bad Wolf. She has scattered this message throughout time and space because she knows that she can save the Doctor. The Daleks have destroyed the defence of the Game Station and are now in the control room when the Tardis appears with Rose in it. She is able to destroy the Daleks but at what cost?
This episode is a brilliant finale to the first series but unfortunately we have to say goodbye to Christopher Eccleston's Ninth Doctor. He absorbs the energy, which is in Rose to save her again but that leads to his regeneration. I think Jack and the Doctor both love Rose in their own way and they want to see her save although it could mean their death. Rose feels the same for them and I guess that is the reason why she brings Jack back to life while she destroys all the Daleks. The Daleks are great monsters and they always give you a great enemy for an episode of Doctor Who. It is interesting that so many people are willing to follow the Doctor and even die for him when he defends earth or does whatever needs to be done. I guess it still hurts him to loose someone but he has learned to bury it inside of him. That's probably the reason why he always wants to bring events to a good end. I would have liked to see a bit more of Chris Eccleston's Doctor but that is not our thing to decide.

Summary:
All of a sudden the Doctor, Rose and Jack land on board of the Game Station. They are all in a different game and in these games you aren't just out when you loose, you'll be killed. The Doctor and Jack manage to get out of their games but when they want to save Rose she is hit by a disintegration beam. Now the Doctor wants to know who is behind all this because he remembers that he has been on this satellite before and has thought back then that he saved the human race. It got worse than that because the humans haven't noticed which threat is just in front of their eyes. The Daleks are back and want to be the rulers of Earth. Jack finds out that Rose isn't dead and the Doctor promises to save her.
"Bad Wolf" is the first part of the final two-parter of this series. The Doctor, Rose and Jack are back on Satellite 5, which is now called the Game Station. There are games like "Big Brother" or "The Weakest Link" and they are broadcast straight to earth. It is funny to see how Russel T. Davies has managed to portrait these different games and he gave them a deadly twist. I always wonder how natural it is for John Barrowman to stand naked in front of the camera. It's a shame that they weren't allowed to show the take of his backside. In this episode we are stumbling over the words Bad Wolf again and we'll soon find out what the mean. This was an element which connected all of the episodes in this series. The Daleks are back and they are stronger than before and still wiling to kill every human being and the Doctor as well. This episode is a great opener for the series finale.

Series 1 Episode 11: Boom Town
Summary:
The Doctor, Rose and Jack are in Cardiff because they need to refuel the Tardis and which place would be better for it than the Rift. Soon they are joined by Mickey and think they can spend a calm day until the Doctor notices an old foe in a newspaper. Margaret, a Slitheen that has survived the rocket on Downing Street, is now major of Cardiff and plans to build a power plant on top of the Rift. They soon capture her and she tells them that she wanted to destroy the planet so she could use the energy to come back home. Mickey and Rose have a fight because she always leaves him behind and he comes running every time she calls him. At the same time Margaret and the Doctor have dinner where she tries to poison him but soon her plan B to get home is revealed. Can the Doctor stop her?
I don't know why but I kind of grew fond of the Slitheen. I know that they are supposed to be scary aliens and so on but I somehow like them. Maybe the reason for that is that the Doctor always manages to defeat them in one way or the other. This episode shows how Mickey feels about Rose travelling with the Doctor. He still loves her but he knows that he doesn't have a future with her and wants to start new. On the other hand he is still so attached to her that he always comes when she phones or needs help. The scene with the Doctor and Margaret in the restaurant is just brilliant and I love how they have managed to help her or the Tardis has managed to help her in the end. Jack doesn't have a lot to do in this episode but that's alright because the focus is more on Rose/Mickey and the Doctor/Margaret. An enjoyable episode between two two-parters.

Series 1 Episode 1: Rose
Now that I have all the episodes of the first four series on DVD, I want to start with reviews of these episodes and I'll start with the episode "Rose".
Summary:
Rose Tyler is a normal girl with a normal job until one day she sees how mannequins become alive and want to kill her. This mysterious man who calls himself the Doctor saves her life and blows the shop up in which she has worked. She meets him again and he tells her that he is an alien who wants to save earth because the Nesteen Consciousness wants to use the planet as food. Together they find the hiding of the alien but will they be able to talk it out of destroying the earth or do they have to destroy it?
Rose was my first ever episode of Doctor Who and I soon got addicted to it. I wasn't born or too young when the episodes with the former Doctors aired and it is always this thing with series being broadcast on German TV. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't.
I still like Christopher Eccleston's Doctor because he has this brilliant smile and he behaves a bit like a child but on the other side he can be very serious as well. Rose was a great choice for a companion because the Doctor gives her a chance to have the time of her life and she takes it without further thinking about it. The character of Jackie is great too but I didn't like Mickey very much in this first episode. I think the character gets better in later episodes.
