Series 4 Episode 13: Journey's End

Summary:
The Doctor heals his body but is able to put the rest of his regeneration energy into his hand, so he doesn't change into another person. The Daleks find the Tardis and bring it to their ship. With everyone out of the Tardis except Donna, the Daleks try to destroy it. But when Donna touches the Doctor's hand a human version of him grows out of it and saves the Tardis from destruction. Martha has reached Germany and activates one of the Osterhagen stations. Sarah Jane, Mickey and Jackie are on board the Dalek ship and are barely able to escape the Reality bomb. There they meet Jack and try to destroy the Daleks. But the Daleks are able to bring all of them to the vault. They haven't expected to see the human Doctor and Donna appear out of nowhere and suddenly Donna turns into a human Time Lord. Together they manage to defeat the Daleks and bring all the planets home. The human Doctor destroys all the Daleks, a thing the Doctor wouldn't have done. After the Earth is at it's normal place, the Doctor says goodbye to his companions and leaves the human Doctor with Rose in the parallel world. Is there a future for him and Donna?

This is such a beautiful and, at the same time, sad ending for a series. We have all of the (mostly new) companions of the Doctor in one episode and we even have a human Doctor that grew out of Ten's hand. I Don't think that Davros is right that the Doctor has turned his companions into weapons because the creator of the Daleks just doesn't know what people do for each other when they love someone. It was a great surprise that Dalek Caan helped the Doctor and that he was the one who brought Donna to all the right places, so she was able to save the universe. It's so cool to finally see why Donna is so special and she makes a great Time Lord. Then there are the sad goodbye scenes where all the companions leave the Doctor and get back to their own lives. Rose now has a chance to grow old with the human Doctor but it's sad nonetheless that we probably won't see her again. The most heartbreaking moment is when the Doctor has to take away Donna's memories because she would die otherwise and now he has to travel alone once more.

Series 4 Episode 12: The Stolen Earth

Summary:
Donna and the Doctor land on Earth but everything seems to be perfectly normal. Suddenly there is something like an earthquake and when the Doctor looks outside the doors of the Tardis, the Earth is gone. It has been moved to a place unknown to the Doctor. To find it again, he seeks out the Shadow Proclamation with Donna to ask for help. Meanwhile on Earth, the people are terrified because there are suddenly strange planets in the sky and they don't know why. UNIT, Torchwood and Sarah Jane Smith try to find out what has happened when their darkest fears come back in form of the Daleks. Martha tries to call the Doctor but he doesn't respond and when the Daleks attack she manages to return to the UK with an experimental teleportation device. Harriet Jones brings Sarah Jane, Torchwood and Martha together and together they try to call the Doctor with the sub-wave network. The Doctor and Donna have received useful information at the Shadow Proclamation and are now in the Medusa Cascade but there is no trace of the missing planets. When the Doctor gets a call, he is able to link to the signal which brings him into the same time with the missing planets. Will he and his friends be able to defeat the Daleks?

I really think this is a great opener for the series finale. It just has such a mean cliffhanger that you have to watch the next episode when you want to know what happens. It's great that all of the companions of the Doctor fight together to defeat the Daleks and you wouldn't have expected that this would happen. That was a big surprise when they all appeared one after the other and there is even Harriet Jones one of my favourite characters although this is her last appearance on Doctor Who. The Daleks are always a good enemy for a series finale and with the return of Davros, the creator of the Daleks is back again. With the Earth under attack, the companions ready to fight for their lives and the tragic meeting of Rose and the Doctor, the story just begins. There will definitely be some great surprises in the last episode of series 4.

Series 4 Episode 6: The Doctor's Daughter

Summary:
The Tardis brings the Doctor, Donna and Martha to the planet Messaline. There they meet some human soldiers who take a tissue sample of the Doctor and grow a new soldier from his DNA in seconds. The Doctor doesn't know what to say when he meets his daughter for the first time. When the Hath arrive, a race  the humans fight against, Jenny, the Doctor's daughter, activates a detonation and Martha ends up on the side of the Hath when the tunnel collapses. Donna and the Doctor are brought to General Cobb, the leader of the humans, and he tells them that this war is going on for generations. They are searching for the Source, a weapon that shall help them to defeat the Hath. The Doctor, Donna and Jenny try to reach the Source before the General and hope to avoid a war this way. When they've reached the rocket the humans and Hath came with they meet Martha again. Soon it becomes clear that the ship arrived on the planet just seven days ago but will this knowledge help the Doctor to stop the killing?

I think it's great to have Martha in another episode with Donna and the Doctor but others may see this differently. I just like her character and the things she adds to the show. She is just someone who wants to help people and she is not afraid to help when there is an injured alien in front of her. Donna is often like a conscience for the Doctor and helps him to see thing differently in her own special way. I really liked the idea of the Doctor having a daughter and it's so sad to see him loosing her again in the end. Well, he doesn't know that she is still alive though and I haven't given up the hope that we will see Jenny again in another episode. That would be really cool. It seems that the humans and Hath will work together now and I think that's a good ending to this story. At the same time it was sad to see Martha leave again but we still have Donna, so onwards to the next adventure.

Series 4 Episode 5: The Poison Sky

Summary:
The Sontarans try to choke the Earth and the Doctor doesn't know exactly why. When he returns to the mobile UNIT headquarters  Donna stays in the Tardis. The false Martha enables the Sontarans to get hold of the Tardis, so the Doctor can't escape from Earth. But they don't know that Donna is in the Tardis and now on board of the Sontaran ship and Therefore she is the only one who can help the Doctor. When she calls him, he tells her what she has to do to activate the teleport again. He knows she is in danger but it's the only way he can save her and the Earth. Meanwhile the Doctor has found out about the false Martha and he saves the real one. Together again, he, Martha and Donna are at Rattigan academy where they find something to clear the atmosphere of the Earth but will it work? And how can they stop the Sontarans?

I think this was a great second part in this two-parter. The Doctor probably suspected from the beginning that Martha wasn't Martha anymore because you could see that he tested her a couple of times. I guess he has spent enough time with her in the Tardis to notice the differences even though the Martha clone had her memories and everything. The episode was quite dramatic with Earth choking slowly in the fumes of the cars but it also had it's funny moments. I just loved it when Donna was on the Sontaran ship and stood before the door which you could only open with three fingers and the Doctor hat to tell that she had three fingers. Just brilliant. I enjoy seeing Wilfred in Doctor Who. He just adds something unique to the episodes he's in. I think the episode had a good ending but it was somehow clear that the Doctor would survive.

Series 4 Episode 4: The Sontaran Stratagem

Summary:
Martha phones the Doctor and calls him back to Earth. Something strange has happened and 52 people have died at the same time all over the planet. The thing they all had in common was the Atmos device in their cars. When Martha and Donna meet for the first time, the Doctor thinks that they won't get along very well but they seem to be the best mates from the start. The Doctor investigates the Atmos device but can't find anything unusual at first but he has this feeling that there has to be something more. So while he goes to the Rattigan Academy  Martha stays with UNIT at the Atmos factory and tries to find out more about the workers who seem to work for 24 h a day. Donna visits her family and can share her adventures with the Doctor with her grandfather. The Doctor finds a teleport device when he visits the Rattigan Academy and now he knows that the Sontarans are behind the strange happenings but what do they want to achieve. With a clone of Martha and all of the Atmos devices activated, the plan of the Sontarans seems to work.

I think it's great to have Martha back who's now working as a doctor for UNIT. The fact that you don't know who's behind of the Atmos device and everything else is very clever and gives you some time to ponder which alien it could be. The Sontarans have appeared before in Doctor Who but I think this is the first time they are back in the episodes since 2005. They really look a bit like potatoes when they take their helmets off but they are interesting although they live for the war. In this first part of the two parter you still don't really know what their plan is, only that they've activated all the Atmos devices and a gas comes out of the cars. They call it a weapon but nobody knows what it'll do on Earth. Even the Doctor is a bit clueless and doesn't know what to do to help the people but we know he'll find a way.

Series 3 Episode 13: Last of the Time Lords

Summary:
The Master rules the earth and has the power to decide who lives and who dies. The Doctor, Jack and Martha's family are his prisoners and he likes to torture him because they won't tell him where Martha is. Meanwhile Martha has travelled the world to find a weapon to fight the Master and now she has returned to England. There she meets with Professor Docherty to find out what's inside the metal shell of the aliens. Soon they see, that the humans from the future who wanted to find Utopia are inside and that the Master has made them into what they are now. The Professor betrays Martha and soon she is captured by the Master as well. Now the Master thinks he has won the war but the Doctor reveals to him that Martha wasn't travelling the world to find a weapon but to tell the story of the Doctor. Is that the way to save the world?

The year that never was is a great idea in my opinion, although there have been some rewrites of time in the Doctor Who universe before and after this episode. It's a brilliant final part for this three-parter and a great series finale for series 3. Martha is really the saver of the world because without her the Doctor couldn't have won the war against the Master. I think it's sad to see that she leaves him now but she has to stay with her family after everything that had happened. Martha is one of the companions who leave because she wants to and not because she is left behind or killed or something like this. The Doctor had finally found another Time Lord who is gone now too. This is definitely a hard episode for the Doctor because he is left alone by all of his companions. I love the moment when they reveal that jack is the face of Boe though. Really brilliant.
