Summary:
Rose and the Doctor land in a storage room and they soon find out that they are on a space station far away from earth. The planet they are on is also quite impossible because it is circling around a black hole but something holds it in place. Strange things happen on the station and the Doctor finds a language that even the Tardis can't translate. Rose encounters the Ood, an alien life form, which the people on the station use as their slaves. They share one consciousness and therefore all think the same. Toby tries to decipher the strange language but is soon possessed by something evil that kills people. The Doctor goes down into the core of the planet to find out what is hiding there. What will he find?
This is a really cool but also quite scary episode, which marks the first part of a two-parter. The special effects of the black hole are amazing and I love the Ood. They kind of look a bit like a squid with these tentacles in their faces and I'm quite happy that we will see them again later in the series. The story is interesting with humans exploring everything they can, trying to find out how things work but maybe they should have gone back when they were still able to. I didn't think there would be a language that the Tardis can't read, so the thing that possesses Toby must be really ancient, even older than the Timelords. That's probably the reason why the Doctor wants to go down into the pit because he wants to know what happens. I think that makes him quite human and you can also see that he regrets that he has taken Rose along, when the Tardis vanishes and they have no chance to return to their time. We are also facing a really exciting cliffhanger before the story continues in the next episode.
