The Scales of Injustice by Gary Russell

"The Scales of Injustice" by Gary Russell is my third Doctor Who novel, which features the Third Doctor, Liz Shaw and UNIT.
The Brigadier gets news about strange deaths in a small village, a small boy missing and a police woman who draws pictures like the ancestors of the humans. The Silurans seem to be back and the Doctor is captured by them, when he investigates alone. There is a sub-department of C19, which collects all things alien in the Vault but nobody really knows about them or knows what they are planning. They want to capture a Silurian for there experiments. Liz Shaw helps them unknowingly and is captured like the Doctor. Can the Doctor and Liz help the Silurians to survive and avoid a war?
The book wasn't bad but I didn't think it was really exciting. It reminded me a lot of the episode "The Hungry Earth" with the Eleventh Doctor. This book added something to my Doctor Who knowledge about the "older" Doctors but I guess you always have to see yourself how the books fit into the events of the TV show. I liked the fact that the Brigadier was in the book and that the Doctor can't travel anywhere because his Tardis is damaged. That's a bit of a change because I only know him with a working Tardis.

Nightshade by Mark Gatiss

"Nightshade" written by Mark Gatiss is the second Doctor Who novel I have read until now.
It features the Seventh Doctor and his companion Ace. Strange things happen in the village Crook Marsham in 1968. People go missing without a sign and an actor in a retirement home starts to see horrible creatures from his old TV show. The Doctor and Ace land amidst all of this but the Doctor is haunted by old memories and thinks about retiring. When dead loved ones start to haunt the people of the village and kill them, the Doctor has to do what he does best: Help other people. Ace falls in love with boy from the village and thinks about staying with him. But will the Doctor let her go?
I think this book is better than the other one (Sands of Time) I read before. It stays mostly in one time and I think it's an interesting idea that people are lured to the alien by images of their loved ones. Before and after you know what is causing all this the book was quite creepy. It's a good read and something to get over the break in series 6.

The Sands of Time

I stumbled over a Doctor Who novel in Ebook format a couple of weeks ago. It's called "The Sands of Time" and was written by Justin Richards.
The story is about the Fifth Doctor, Tegan and Nyssa. During a visit of the British Museum Nyssa is kidnapped by a strange man and Tegan and the Doctor have to find her. They find out that the kidnapping has something to do with an old Egyptian prophecy and that Nyssa's body is used to bring an Egyption god back to life. While the Doctor and Tegan unravel the plan they also have to avoid seeing themselves during their rescue of Nyssa.
I liked the book but it was a bit confusing in some places because it has a lot of leaps in time and it is sometimes difficult to tell in which time you are right now. But the plot was good and I enjoyed reading it and seeing a different version of the Doctor.

The Doctor's Faith Healing & The Angel has the Phonebox

If you like to read Doctor Who Fan Fiction and also Ebooks then I have something for you. Patrick Mallard wrote a Doctor Who/Buffy/Angel crossover Fan Fiction which is really great.

The first book is called "The Doctor's Faith Healing" and is about the 10th Doctor who is sent to Sunnydale by the Powers That Be to help Buffy, Faith and the others to fight against the First Evil. It seems that one of the Powers That Be has not only the defeat of the First Evil in mind when it sends the Doctor to Sunnydale but also his personal happiness...

The second book is called "The Angel has the Phonebox" and is split into two parts. Both parts play in LA and the Doctor was indirectly sent there to help Angel with his cases. In the first one children fall into a coma after watching the tv show "Smile Time". The Doctor and Angel investigate this case but end up as puppets when they first sneak onto the set. They now have to find out how to reverse their condition and how to save the children. In part two the Doctor challenges Illyria for the fate of Fred's soul and body. Their judge is the demon Sweet and he sets up a singing contest between the two parties to decide who will get Fred's body.

I really liked this two Ebooks and nearly read them at a stretch. It really is a great story and I hope there will be sequel to the books.
